When it comes to tips and lists about ways to improve communication, we know some are better than others. However, since improving communication with customers and partners alike is on top of any New Year’s resolution list, your SLTA team wanted to share this piece from HousingWire.

  • Be willing to communicate multiple ways. That means handing out your cell phone number and answering texts and calls, even after hours. Don’t forget about email either. All this sends the message that you’re willing to go above and beyond to keep the transaction moving.
  • Send updates even when there is no update. Simply being responsive isn’t good enough in the modern marketplace. Instead, communicate proactively. Shoot over a quick email or text once a week, even if it’s just to say that things are still progressing as expected.
  • Let people know when you’ll be unavailable. There are times when it might feel like your job bleeds into your personal life, especially this year and at the end of the month. If you’re going out of town for a few days, let people know you’ll be out of touch. Setting expectations is key.

You don’t have to do all these things to attract new business but applying at least one of these suggestions would be a good goal for you in 2022. We know SLTA members are some of the most caring and professional people in this business, but don’t let communication be the reason others don’t know that, too!
